The production of Bio-slurry a byproduct of the Bio-gas production process is underway at Gayaza High School.Currently we collect over 40 jerrycans of the Bio-slurry daily and take it to the gardens directly. This is an action research programme on the usefulness of the Bio-slurry as a both a fertiliser and pesticide. We hope to confirm the notion that Bio-slurry could replace the synthetic fertilisers and support organic farming. We want our students to learn more about organic farming than anything else in order to teach sustainability of our soils and reduce on pollution. This then combines well with the use of Bio-gas at the kitchen where we are trying to reduce on the firewood used and save the forests that are cut down to feed our school. In future we want to package the liquid slurry and supply the nearby farmers within our community and influence their actions.
If you have a practical experience on the use of Bio-slurry as an organic fertilizer please share with us your personal experience.
