Dreams, Promises and Tears : Story of Our School Election
Elections in Gayaza High School are a highly anticipated time as students are ready to get rid of the old leaders and make way for the new prefectural body.
The election process includes a number of steps such as submission of applications, screening of successful applicants and the most draining part of it all, campaigns. During campaigns season, its hard to catch even a wink of sleep as the potential leaders and their friends get creative coming up with catchy songs, persuasive speeches and encouraging slogans to win the votes of their colleagues. My personal favorite slogan this year had been “Naki-naki-naki, Nakigudde Gladys for you!
The most highly awaited for part is the posting of the new leaders and prefects which comes after the counting of votes and announcing of the successful contestants, though sometimes, the girls who win the elections do not all have the specific requirements for some of the positions. In such a situation, the administration comes to our rescue and appoints students with the right qualifications. Phew!
Everyone comes running to hear who gets what since not everyone is given a post they would be particularly happy about. Sometimes, girls even give up their posts since they had wanted something “better”. In my opinion most people would only like to see who the heads are, such as the Head Girl, the PWP, and the deputy Head Girl since these are considered the most prestigious roles.
The new leaders and their posts are announced and the girls pray and hope for these leaders to lead them well as we congratulate them on making it through. That ends the election season. Till next year!
