Gayaza High School will on Sunday – 11 June 2017 hold a Fundraising Walk, dubbed, “Tambula Gayaza”, starting from the Kololo Independence Grounds, to raise One Billion Uganda Shillings (UGX 1Billion) for the construction of a new Administration Block at the School.
Speaking at a press conference in Kampala on 22 February 2017, the school headmistress, Mrs. Victoria Serunkuuma Kisarale said it has become necessary to build a new block due to space constraints with the current one.
“The situation is quite dire,” she said. “The staff room was built to accommodate at least 30 teachers. However, the school population has since grown and so has the staff team, who are now close to 75, rendering the conditions within the staff room impractical.”
Mrs. Kisarale noted that there is enough space within the school compound to accommodate the administration block and other projects.
The Gayaza Old Girls Association (GOGA) Chairperson, Dr. Florence Kasirye, said the association took on the project in 2015.
“We are glad that many alumnae and friends of the school have given tremendous support and more people have shown interest in giving back to the school,” she said, noting that the team of architects and engineers are already in place and have developed the designs.
“We now need to progress to construction and are looking for more support,” said Dr. Kasirye. “GOGA, the Parents Teacher’s Association (PTA) and the Gayaza High School Administration and Students are going full steam ahead to raise Not Less than One Billion Uganda Shillings by June 2017 to construct a new administration block at the School.”
Revealing that collection of this money has already started, Dr. Kasirye called on students, Old Girls, current and former parents, husbands, brothers, sisters, grandparents and friends of Gayaza to “rally with us to achieve this goal”.
The Charity Walk Chairperson and PTA Chair, Dr. Evelyn Kahiigi said, “This aggressive drive to support our Great School will culminate in the “TAMBULA GAYAZA” Fundraising Walk to be held on Sunday 11 June 2017.”
