Kennedy
The Kennedy House was established in 1964 and was given its name in honour of John F. Kennedy, the deceased president of the United States of America, who had fervently battled for African-American rights until his assassination in 1963.
During the house’s construction, the then Gayaza girls wanted to honour him for defending the rights of the black people. Although he had no links with Uganda, America was already playing a clear role in Uganda, with volunteer teachers and grants for education through USAID.
The motto of Kennedy house is written in Swahili, “Kua Mfano”, which means “Be an example”.
The house’s Mascot is an eagle symbolising the quick minded residents (“Kennedians”).
Red, the colour of the house, is a symbol of strength.
